Frank Latham has joined the Council to launch the Youth Leadership Project. The project will work with young people with developmental disabilities to help them get ready to be a new generation of leaders in self-advocacy. Latham brings a wealth of experience to the Council, both as a social worker and as a field coordinator working with advocacy groups across the state. According to Latham, he is looking forward to working with young advocates who were involved in the Council's early efforts in this area last year, as well as actively seeking new people to join the Project. "Youth development is the cornerstone of any movement. The Council's new Youth Leadership Project will be a key resource for young advocates who want to get involved and help move that mission forward," says Latham. Latham says the membership should reflect a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, with a special focus on young people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, as mandated by the federal law governing the Council. Over the coming months Latham will be working with interested young advocates to recruit new members, set goals, and develop short and long range plans. For more
